GP2 No Help Hotlaps

This page is for Hotlaps of the Microprose game Grand Prix 2. And not just any hotlaps, but Real Hotlaps. If you have made a good lap that complies to the Rules, send the thing here. Thanks to Christer for assisting software!

I recommend using GP2LAP. GP2LAP logs some additional information (for example the processor occupancy) into the hotlap file. This data can be viewed using HOF2LAP. Every lap that uses GP2LAP will get a special highlighting in the page.

Rules

I think this is the fairest way of comparing driving skills without actually racing against each other. If your lap does not follow these criteria, please send it to one of the zillions of ordinary hotlap pages in the Web. Thank you.

Click times to load hotlap replays. If it is marked +setup, then the zipfile contains separate setup file, setups may also be extracted from other hotlaps. Laps that have been on the page for less than a month, are marked as new.

What does processor occupancy -rule mean?

It refers to the processor occupancy rating that you can see by pressing letter O when driving.
If the percentage is over 100, then the time of the game slows down and the driver has more time to react.

If you do not use GP2LAP

Drive a slow lap around the track keeping O pressed down, if the number rises above 100 at some point,
then there is unrealistic time warp and you should either take off some detail or use lower framerate (or get a faster computer).

So if you can drive around the track with no over 100% occupancy at any point,
then it is no more necessary to check the occupancy in the hotlaps you make in that same track with the same graphics settings.

If you use GP2LAP

This is the recommended way and it has benefits for you, too. GP2LAP logs some additional information
(for example the processor occupancy) into the hotlap file. This data can be viewed using HOF2LAP.
The occupancy values shown in this way are slightly smaller than with the other method, but everything under 100% is accepted.

No going off the track

This rule has two parts, one for the places where there is either grass (the green one), gravel (the popcorn) or a kerb
(the multicolored thing inside of a corner, you know) and one for the places where there is only a white line in the asphalt limiting the track.

Definition: Wheel is outside the track if there is pixels between the wheel and the track. The kerb and the white line belong to the track.

Part 1: Grass, gravel, kerb
No wheels outside the track. Exception: Rear wheel may very shortly be out when it just has left the end of a kerb at the exit of a corner (this is realistic).

Part 2: White lines
Two wheels may be outside the track, two must be inside.

This rule can best be checked from a still picture when viewing the car from behind in the replay.

That was the definition, now I'll once more try to say the general idea so that anyone understands.
NO WHEELS OFF THE TRACK, EXCEPT TWO OVER THE WHITE LINES IN ASPHALT.
