Team history

Team sound chaser was founded in September of 1996 by mark jeangerard after many years of trying unsuccessfully to solicit a drive from some of the more prominent (and even defunct) Formula 1 teams.

Growing up in Santa Cruz, CA, mark had the opportunity to become a huge fan of road racing. With Sears Point, San Francisco Speedway, and Laguna Seca so close at hand, it was easy to spend many weekends going deaf. Ever since he was a small child mark wanted to be Speed Racer. Of course, his dad wanted him to be an architect. So, after college, mark set about this racing business.

Having followed F1 since his childhood mark soon realized how a successful racing driver must train himself. He went karting. After 7 or 8 laps he called Frank Williams and said, “I’m ready. How does $10,000,000.00 a year sound?”

Eventually Frank Williams had to file stalking and harassment charges. Jeangerard was seen being dragged by police, flailing and blathering, from Williams’ home in late 1994. Millions of TV viewers world wide heard him scream, “Hill is a ninny! Let me drive! I’ll do it for free!”

Many years, many disappointments, and a couple of jail terms later, jeangerard decided to start his own team. Having saved a few dollars from his audio recording business, mark started looking in the classified section of Racer magazine. The price of used F1 machines, coupled with his wifes consistent nagging, (something about not even being able to keep his bicycle wheel-side down) prompted mark to look into an alternative racing series. Finally while wandering through his local Hastings, mark found the answer to all his dreams.

The Box said, “Drive real F1 cars against real F1 drivers. Choose whichever team you want to be on. Set the ability of your opponents. Win the World Championship!” Well, that was what mark had been searching his whole life for, and it was only 60 bucks! Team sound chaser was born.

The sound chaser team philosophy

Mark jeangerard, sound chaser’s lead (and only) driver explains, “The key to going quickly, is to keep your foot down in all circumstances. Thinking is for ninnies. Just go flat everywhere and when you do occasionally fly off track it’s up to the designers and mechanics to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Mark jeangerard, sound chaser chief mechanic adds, “You know, jeangerard’s not all that bright. But he really is our only shot. He’s the only one that will do it for the pay we’re offering, and the big wigs, the jeangerards, won’t even consider anyone else.”

The drivers, and mechanics, and owners, etc... wife, Rachael, walked in during the interviews with a very confused and worried look on her face. Never the less her statement best sums up sound chasers hopes for the 1997 season.

“Do you want pizza or Chinese for dinner?”
