1. How to
Prepare GP2 for the Championship
-
Ensure
you have the full install of GP2 on your computer, and have used the NoCD
patch, or similar, so 3rd party circuits can be used.
-
Download
the carset and export it into the game using GP2Edit v1.85 (or previous
versions). Also download the relevant circuit. Only the circuits which
have already been used or are the current circuit will be available for
download. For example. If it was May, all the circuits prior to May would
be available, and the May circuit. June through to December will not be
available. These must be downloaded when they are released. This is an
attempt to limit testing time and thus level out the field. Export the
tracks into the game as stated in the readme.txt file that accompanies
each track.
-
Ensure
you have the latest version of GP2Lap. We recommend version 1.14. You cannot
compete in the league without using GP2Lap.
2. How to Prepare
GP2 for a Race.
-
Check the downloads
page, and ensure you have the latest version of the carset and track.
-
In your GP2 directory
there is a file GP2Lap.exe. You must use this file when playing in the
GP2World Championship. This file will run GP2Lap, and use the correct tracks.
It also records a log of your game.
3. How to Run
a Qualifying Session
-
When the carset
is released qualifying officially starts. You have approximately one week
to send in your results. An individual schedule may be published before
each race. The schedules page is roughly accurate, although do not rely
on it for exact dates. A countdown will be displayed on the main page indicating
time remaining.
-
Download and install
the carset (see above) and track.
-
Start a ‘Non-Championship’
race at the correct track.
-
During Qualifying
save your fastest hot lap and when the second session has finished save
the game.
-
We now also require
your performance files. If you don't know how to do this,
read
this here.
-
The files should
be name as follows:
NN_DN_YY.XXX
Where:
-
NN = Driver Number
-
DN = Driver Initials
-
YY = Session code
-
XXX = File Suffix
(Done automatically by Gp2)
Session Codes:
-
Q1 = Fastest qualifying
hot-lap
-
QG = Saved game
at end of qualifying
-
QP = Qualifying
Performance Data
E.g. If my number
was 17 by name Steven Jones and I was naming my fastest hot-lap I would
call it 17_SJ_ Q1.hlx
N.B. Files
can be sent as zips, and are preferred in that form.
-
Add all three files
to a WinZip file and submit using the 'Submit' link in the menu.
e.g. Name: Bob Jones
Team: Bob Jones Racing
Circuit: Monaco
Time: 1minute 23.456seconds
4. How to
run a Race session
-
From when the qualifying
grid is released you have approximately three weeks to send in your race
results.
-
When the qualifying
deadline has passed the files will be collected and a grid calculated.
-
The position you
came on the grid must be the position that you start the race to do this
read on….
-
When the grid is
released each driver will be given a position. When in GP2 go to drive
options and then in the top left hand corner there are some quick race
options. First chose the right track then in starting position enter the
position you came on the grid.
-
When last car crosses
the line on the final lap you will see a ‘RACE OVER’ box. When you see
this save the game. We also need your fastest hot lap (or close to), so
save that and send it in as well. We are aware that sometimes the hotlap
does not always appear when you attempt to save, in which case save the
fastest of the ones which are able to be saved.
-
We now also require
your performance files. If you don't know how to do this,
read
this here.
-
The files should
be name as follows:
Where:
-
NN = Driver Number
-
DN = Driver Initials
-
YY = Session code
-
XXX = File Suffix
(Done automatically by Gp2)
Session Codes:
-
RG = Saved game
at end of race
-
RH = Race hot-lap
-
RP = Race performance
data
E.g. If my number
was 24 by name Marcus Lawerson and I was naming my race saved game I would
call it 24_ML_ RG.rax
N.B. Files can
be sent as zips, and are preferred in that form.
-
Once again, as
in qualifying use the form and attach your files in one WinZip (or similar)
archive. Use the submit link in the menu on any page of this site to submit
your times.
The results will
be calculated and published as quickly as possible, although a delay of
at least 2 days can be expected. This is due to the time required to calculate
the results, have them forwarded to the website maintainer and for that
person to update the results page and publish it.
5.
Saving Performance Files
-
Save
your hotlap in the game
-
When
the race is finished enter the Drive Options menu
-
Select
Review Performance Data
-
Load
the laps to save performance data from
-
When
your lap loads save it as a perf file
-
Name
these files as usual, although with the ending QP (Qualifying Performance)
or RP (Race Performance)
6.
Submitting Times
Use the link
on the menu "Submit". If this does not function correctly (in some cases
where no default email service has been selected), email them to jdiaz@gp2world.com.
Do not send them to another staff member, as they will most likely be deleted
and not sent to Junior. In some cases they might be, although it is advised
not to risk the chance that they are deleted without being forwarded.
7. Meeting
Deadlines
Deadlines are
held to strictly, although if you have a genuine reason for not submitting
your files on time a sort extension may be granted. This will generally
be a maximum of 24 hours after the initial deadline. If you fail to submit
your files by then you will be relegated to 26th and last position on the
grid. If your files are received late with no explanation or extension
granted one of two things may happen. 1. You will start from 26th on the
grid. 2. You will start from the rear of the timed grid. This may vary
depending on the severity of the infringement.
8. 107% Rule
May or may not
be displayed on the grid. The 107% figure is used as a graphical representation
only and bears no action. Therefore qualification is not controlled by
the speed of the pole getter.
9. DNF's
The carset should
be set in such a way that a mechanical failure is impossible. You may also
restart your race at any time if you crash etc. So if you are 29 laps into
a 30 lap race and you spin, you are allowed to restart the race. Remember
all files must be submitted by the deadline. If you are only able to complete
a portion of the race still send your files in. We will classify all drivers
who send files. So if you do 5 laps and only 2 other people send in their
files - you will finish second.
10. Cheating
All forms of
cheating except reloading are banned. You are allowed to save your game
and reload it as many times as you like. Methods are employed in order
to prevent cheating, and will detect irregularities with files or times.
TIP:
If you don't cheat, you won't get caught!!!
11. Points
The following
points will be awarded;

10 Points will
also be awarded to the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race in their
respective class. If a race is stopped short for any reason, half points
will be awarded unless 80% of the distance has been completed. In the last
round of the championship double points will be awarded. In the first round
half points are awarded.
12.
Processor Occupancy
A
100% processor occupancy is enforced for all GP2World Championship
League sessions, and remains constant for both qualifying and the race.
In the case of street circuits or those where the detail is deemed excessive,
a suitable leeway will be enforced. Generally this will be 5%, although
the staff reserve the right to modify this prior ro the session beginning.
Advised ways
of reducing the PO is to reduce graphical detail such as sky or smoke.
Continue to reduce the detail until the PO level is constant around 100%.
It may be nessessary on some circuits to revert to VGA mode if you are
having trouble with SVGA.
13.
Disqualifications
As
ruled by the CCA is votes GP2W0002 and GP2W0004 the disqualification criteria
have now ben change to correspond with this verdict.
A
driver can be disqualified for the following reasons;
1.
Wrong Track
2.
Wrong slot used for track
3.
Files/Times submitted late
4.
False Statements Made about other Teams And drivers
Breaking
any of the rules stated here can also result in disqualification, and even
a suspention of up to and including 4 races.
The
driver and team owner must then email the CCA (Yasemin Morecroft - ymorecroft@gp2world.com).
The CCA will then perform an investigation run by Committee members. The
result will then be emailed the the carset, the driver and the team owner.
The
driver and team have 4 days to appeal the desicion, and the driver can
race under appeal.
14.
Driver/Team Movements
During a specified
season each team shall be permitted only 1 driver over those required for
competing in sessions. This driver may be replaced at any time. Drivers
competing in session related competition can be replaced during an event,
although must complete the current event before the new driver may begin
competition with the team. The team may replace competing drivers as many
times as desired throughout the season, although a maximum of 6 different
drivers are accepted. This is not negotiable. Drivers are obliged to remain
with the team as long as the agreement states. These must be submitted
to the Carset, Constructors Committee and General Management Delegates
before the driver begins competition. Failure to do so will result in team
disqualification for that session, and any following sessions if the task
is not completed. No points will be awarded to the constructor, although
auxiliary drivers are capable of adding to their individual tallies. If
the driver breaks this agreement, he/she will be banned for a period of
up to 4 races, pending the decision of the CCA panel. A 2 race mandatory
ban will be placed on any driver leaving a team against their agreement.
The driver cannot compete for another team until the current agreement
is exhausted. A driver may leave a team under the teams wishes and compete
for another team however. Notice must be given to previously mentioned
delegates. Failure to do so will result in loss of points from the most
recent session, or, if no points were scored, the most recent points scoring
session. This will calculate to a total of 50% maximum point deduction.
15.
GP2World Email List
As
stated on the downloads page of this site, it is a compulsory part of driving
in the league. Information relevant to drivers and team owners will be
circulated through it, and is also used as a discussion panel.
Any
driver who is not subscribed will be disqualified from the most current
session, with no appeal heard. A driver may not unsubscribe at any time
during their active career with the league.
A
code of conduct must be adhered to. A failure to do so will result in the
same penalty as above.
-
Profanities of any kind are not tolerated.
-
Derogatory comments directed at a person or persons will not be tolerated
The
carset delagate reserves the right to determine what is classified as 'tolerable',
and shall react accordingly.
16.
Minimum Competiton Rule
A
competiton factor of 50% is required for any team to continue in the league.
This requires at least 1 car from the team to compete in 50% of the sessions
held. This car does not have to be the same car throughout the season,
as long as a team member is competing in 50% of the sessions exclusion
from the carset will be avoided.
A
satisfactory reason must be given if the team will be unable to complete
this, the staff will decide what is satisfactory and not, the carset delegate
having the final desicion.
