Round 7 of 16

Grand Prix du Canada

Montreal, Canada
2.752 miles/ 4.430 km
January 19, 1998

Welcome to Monteal, Canada and the seventh round of the LFRS World Championship!

Montreal is a track with slow corners linking reasonably long straights. This means acceleration off the chicanes and hairpins is all important. You also need a car that will brake well in a straight line and turn in at low speed well, and look out for the bumps, as they play havoc with gearboxs. A good setup is not as critical at Montral as at most tracks, but it's still the secret to a fast time.

History: Montreal is most remembered for the coming together between championship rivals Nelson Piquet and Alan Jones in the final race of the 1980 world championship. At race start, the hard charging Jones and Piquet crashed into each other causing the race to be stopped. At the restart, Piquet lead away in his spare Brabham BT49 (which still had his qualifying engine in) and looked to be heading to his first drivers championship. Then his high compression qualifying engine let go. This allowed "AJ" and Williams to claim their first World Drivers Championship.
